Academics : Admissions Timeline
Junior Year
Spring:
- Choose challenging courses for your senior year
- Make a list of potential colleges
- Call colleges to request to be put on their mailing list
- Take the SATs
- Brainstorm which teacher would write a recommendation for you – ask him/her
- Write up a “brag sheet”
- Register with the NCAA Clearinghouse if you plan to participate in collegiate athletics
Summer:
- Schedule tours/interviews at prospective colleges
- Register for the SATs if you plan to take them in the early Fall
Senior Year
September/October
- Attend open houses
- Get your recommendation letters
- Begin to work on your essay
- Review your applications – note the deadlines!
- Fill out applications… submit to guidance
- Take SATs again
November/December:
- Watch deadlines!
- If your college needs your 1st quarter grade report, make sure you request this from guidance
- Pick up the FAFSA
- Prepare for mid-terms (don’t let your grades slide, many school request a mid-year report)
January/February:
- Have your parents fill out the FAFSA
- Investigate scholarship opportunities
March/April
- Make your final visits to your prospective institutions
- Check with each college for their policy on depositing and/or confirming your enrollment
- Be prepared for the arrival of your financial aid package. Have the Admissions Office phone number handy for questions
- Be prepared to hear for schools that you were waitlisted for
May/June
- Don’t forget the May 1st deadline for enrolling in your college of choice
- Request that your final transcript be sent to your college!
