702 - Related Arts - ½ credit

This one semester required course is for all freshmen who do not choose music or art. It is designed to introduce the students to the basic elements of art and music with the hope that this exposure will increase their appreciation and understanding of the arts in the world around them.

712 - Art 1

This is a basic introductory course to acquaint the student with the elements of art: line, shape, color, and the various materials and techniques. A general art history survey is part of this year long course. Art 1 is required before the more advanced art courses may be taken.

722 - Art 2

In this second year of studio art, the stress is placed upon detailed drawing skills in pencil, pastel, and pen and ink, during the first semester. In the second semester, the student will work in printmaking and 3D sculpture (clay and wood constructions). The art history continues throughout this course. Students will also work with computer graphics on the Power Mac. Programs such as adobe illustrator, photoshop, pagemaker, page layout, type, design , and scanning will be introduced. Prerequisites: Art 1 and the approval of the instructor.

731 - Art 3

In the third year of studio art, stress is placed upon the quality and creativity of individualized artwork. Drawing, painting, printmaking, and/or 3D works will be covered at more advanced levels. Figure drawing and portraiture will be featured. The art history survey continues throughout this course. Continuation of computer work, graphics, 3D design, morphing, color technology, and publication art. Prerequisites: Art 2 and portfolio review.

740 - AP Studio Art

This course allows the senior art student to go beyond the Art 4 studio requirements and work towards college level portfolio preparation. Course work includes required summer projects as well as a considerable amount of weekend home assignments. Particular emphasis will be placed upon life drawing and intensive observational skills as well as grounding in all the major 2D and some 3D media. Portfolio preparation for the advanced placement jury will be the final assessment of the course. Prerequisites: Minimum of two years of studio art and portfolio review.

741 - Art 4

In the fourth year of studio art, stress is placed upon individual insight and creativity. Materials and subject matter are determined by the student in contract with the instructor. A self-portrait and an original work gift to the school are required projects of the course. The survey of art history is a regular part of this course as well. Prerequisites: Art 3 and portfolio review.

745 - Mechanical Drawing/CAD (Computer Assisted Design)

This course covers basic mechanical drafting techniques. It will introduce and explore 2- D drafting, 3-D molding and blueprint design on the Power Mac computer using mini-cad 6.0 Prerequisite: Good Math skills are required.

746 - Engineering Drawing/CAD (Computer Aided Design)

This course is a follow up to Mechanical Drawing (745). The course covers 3-D projections, scanning, plotting, 3-D geometric and sectional construction. (Track 1) Prerequisite: Successful completion of Mechanical Drawing.,/p>

747 - Computer Graphics 1

This course in desktop publishing is open to all juniors and seniors who are interested in working on publications (newspaper, brochures, yearbook, etc). Course content includes: page layout, design and typography, scanning, sizing, and manipulating and placing photos. Guest speakers in the publishing and design fields will share their expertise throughout the year. Programs to be used are: Adobe Illustrator 9.01, Pagemaker 6.0, Adobe Photoshop 6.0. We will touch on some Web design using Adobe Go Live. Prerequisites: Art 1 and computer experience.

748 - Computer Graphics 2

This course is a continuation of Computer Graphics 1, at an advanced pace. All forms of publication (page layout, design, typography, scanning, and photo manipulation) will be explored, including pricing and pre-press layouts. Prerequisite: Successful completion of Computer Graphics 1.
